2014 – Arm Knitting

{products handmade by Anne Weil}

Each year since the first art retreat, I have hand selected the instructors that teach for
the weekend. This year was no exception. Anne Weil of Flax and Twine; Andrea Jenkins
of Hula Seventy; Mati McDonough; and Courtney Cerruti were chosen not only for their
talent but also in how they interact with the participants for the weekend. Today, I am
going to focus on Arm Knitting with Anne Weil as we received so many positive and
enthusiastic words from our participants about this class and as it almost Christmas
this is also a fantastic holiday gift.

{class instruction}

What exactly is arm knitting? Arm knitting is actually using your arms instead of knitting
needles to knit something. For this years classes, Anne chose to teach how to knit the
beautiful cowls that you see in the photographs. Each cowl takes about 2-3 hours from
start to finish and is such and easy project with little materials required that anyone can
do it! All you need are skeins of wool in the color of your choice.

Luckily for us, the week before our retreat Anne was in San Francisco filming a video
with creativebug called Arm Knit a Cowl, so even if you were unable to make it to
Truckee to take the class in person or if you need a quick refresher, creativebug is
offering her class for FREE this month.

{finishing and tying together}

I hope you’ve enjoyed a peek into arm knitting and that you will take some time to make
something handmade this holiday season. If you don’t have time to make you can purchase
these lovelies directly from Anne’s website and if you have the inkling to join us next year
to make something in person, for a limited time we are selling gift certificates to all three
of our retreats next year.

Have a great week everyone and we’ll see you back here next time to continue our retreat update.
